Story
How it all Began
Anders founded SchoolOps because operations teams deserve what everybody else has: meaningful professional investment.
As the founding Director of Operations for a charter school in Baltimore, Anders Lindgren built the operational systems from scratch — enrollment, facilities, technology, field trip logistics, the front office. But when he searched for professional learning for himself and his team, there was nothing.
That contrast came into focus when he joined SchoolKit, an instructional professional development organization. There he saw what serious professional learning looked like: skilled facilitation, real practice, coaching that follows people back to their buildings, ideas that change how someone works the next Monday. Teachers and principals were getting it. Operations leaders weren’t.
So we built it. SchoolOps is the professional home for the people who make everything work behind the scenes — Directors of Operations, Office Managers, Business Managers, and the leaders who depend on them. Our training and coaching sessions are led by former COOs and Directors of Operations – people who have actually done the work, know how difficult it is, and understand what it takes to do it well.
Over time, our partners started asking for more support – they needed help executing in addition to learning. So we built a services practice alongside the training: operations audits, hiring support, project work, and embedded hybrid COO engagements where we sit inside a school or network and carry the operations function through a launch, an expansion, or a leadership transition. Today we work with schools, networks, and school support organizations across the country.
What connects both sides of our work is a conviction: operations is a profession, not just a pile of tasks. A school can only execute on the promises it makes to students when strong operational systems support that execution. The people who build those systems deserve the same investment, rigor, and respect the field extends to instructional staff — and when they get it, schools run better for the students inside them.
